1989, Los Angeles.
Lorna, a young aspiring singer, joins a music band project for Dreamtoons Kingdom—a rad theme park. Along with the other band members and their producer, manager, and mentor, Joanna, Lorna experiences an unforgettable summer of music, friendship, and fame with the Outer Space Rebels.
Unfortunately, the record deal they were promised falls through, and the band parts ways in the fall. However, Lorna is invited to stay on as part of a ‘90s prefabricated pop band, the Dreamy Bunch. She knows she’s being used by Mike, Dreamtoons' CEO, but she can’t let her dream slip away. She decides to roll with it, betraying the Rebels. Yet, her growing dissatisfaction, combined with her obsession with stardom, pushes her to the brink.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to control chaos, Mike toys with the idea of replacing all live acts at Dreamtoons Kingdom with animatronics. Little does he know that purchasing an army of robots from a defense contractor and programming them with the goal of “maximizing profit through showbiz” is a recipe for disaster.
When Lorna’s old bandmates, now moving on with their lives, receive an urgent warning from Joanna that their friend is in trouble, they spring into action.
Armed with all their rock-and-roll power, they stage a daring break-in at Dreamtoons Kingdom to save Lorna, leading to an epic rock battle against an army of machines. As the out-of-control animatronics fight to protect their human assets, music prevails. With watts to spare, the band rides a roller coaster to the heart of the park, using the power of rock to tear down the walls of Lorna’s dressing room and rescue her.
Lorna learns that while dreams are important, obsessing over them can be dangerous. With this new perspective, she discovers how to adapt her dreams to whatever life throws her way. Oh, and that robots ain’t cool.
On their way out, the Outer Space Rebels make one final stop at the Dreamy Mountain Amphitheatre for a high-voltage performance to close the show.
